Former NKBA president: Gray is the new hot kitchen color for 2013

On Friday, March 22, Alan Zielinski, a former president of the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA), spoke to the Campaign County Association of REALTORS in Urbana, Illinois. In the speech, Zielinski discussed his former organization's recently published "Top 10 Industry Trends for 2013" and what they meant for professionals in the real estate industry.

According to the NKBA's report, 55 percent of designers say they are using gray in their kitchen plans this year, which was up 22 percent from last year's survey and 46 percent from figures from 2010.

Zielinski says that many home buyers and homeowners are choosing to use gray in their kitchens because of its cool, calming and neutral effects.

To many fashion observers, this trend perhaps isn't so surprising. As far back as September of last year, major runway designers were incorporating gray, a phenomenon that lead Elle magazine to label gray "a go-to shade" for spring 2013.

Of course, there are a number of ways to incorporate gray into your home's color scheme, from choosing new faucets and light fixtures to cabinetry and flooring. (This blog post from the DIY decorating experts at The Inspired Room can help you get a few ideas of how you can look to adopt this style for your home).

Homeowners who want to partake in this trend by remodeling their San Diego kitchens can do so by working with a reputable carpet or flooring installation provider in their area. At Bonded Carpet, we offer a wide selection of flooring options – from affordable vinyl to durable stone – that can fit in gray-inspired color schemes.
